The following shows how to use variables hyb, Cstv_ptop_8 and Grd_rcoef from the gem_cfgs namelist. Use Um_show_levels to plot the levels selection of a gem_settings.nml file. You can also convert GEM3 levels to GEM4 levels with Um_convert_levels.

1 hyb and Cstv_ptop_8

The following figure shows how to use hyb and Cstv_ptop_8. Note that there is no value in hyb for the surface nor for the top. The top level is controlled by the Cstv_ptop_8 (in Pa). The hyb value serves to define the momentum (horizontal winds) levels. The thermodynamic levels are not part of the namelist. These are computed by the model from the hyb list and Cstv_ptop_8.

2 Grd_rcoef

The following figure shows the effect of the two Grd_rcoef parameters on the level flattening.
